Blog 1 Supreme Court

 Notes---

-Deal with Human Dilemmas

-All of history there have been just over 100 court justices (2013)

-Average 16 years each, most will likely serve twice that length

-Only active presidents can appoint justices

-When getting started it is said to take around 3-5 years to become adjusted

-John Marshall was the first chief justice and was the first man to strike down congress acts as unconstitutional

-"We must never forget it is a constitution we are expounding"

-When began quickly became a co-equal branch of government

-The courts today look at the constitution in the tradition by John Marshall to resolve national problems

-100 new cases each week

-Around 7,000 each year and only take 100 new cases each year

-Most new cases are for determining if a lower court was incorrect

-A court does not have secrets because everything is an opinion

- No inside story just people thinking together who know the constitution

- They cannot determine which cases they want to work on like state prosecutors

- Oral arguments last for around 9 hours then the nation's top law officials meet

-They are meant to make decisions on all current cases

-As soon as they know the decision immediately copies are being made

-Decisions on civil rights, criminal procedures, taxes, labor laws, and business
