-Average 16 years each, most will likely serve twice that length

-When began quickly became a co-equal branch of government
-The courts today look at the constitution in the tradition by John Marshall to resolve national problems
-100 new cases each week
-Around 7,000 each year and only take 100 new cases each year
-Most new cases are for determining if a lower court was incorrect
-A court does not have secrets because everything is an opinion
- No inside story just people thinking together who know the constitution
- They cannot determine which cases they want to work on like state prosecutors
- Oral arguments last for around 9 hours then the nation's top law officials meet
-They are meant to make decisions on all current cases
-As soon as they know the decision immediately copies are being made
-Decisions on civil rights, criminal procedures, taxes, labor laws, and business
